Midsummer festival in Sweden. This family feast, together with Christmas, is the most important festival of the year. The arrival of summer is celebrated; Midsommar. Throughout the country the maypole is set up on this day and decorated with leaves, flowers, ribbons and garlands. There is singing and dancing around the maypole. Traditionally, on the midsummer night herring with the first new potatoes of the year are eaten.
